Ooh, desolate...

Also, I didn't notice the animations at first, because for the first few seconds I was just staring at the sky... Lol. Awesome... Did you do all those gradients manually, or is there a program that automates the pixels alternating colours or something?

radshoe responds:

yes, all of them are done manually. thank you! ^^

Ermahgerd, colour me intrigued!

Reminds me a bit of "The Warriors", because 1970s and what looks like a subway/metro station.

Also, the integration of the title and your signature into the tags is super-classy.

Yep, I think I'm going to have to add your twitter to my bookmarks so I can see where this goes.

SouredApple responds:

The warriors is a big inspiration and thank you!

You have a real talent for capturing the ambience of a particular area... There are a lot of small, but interesting things that end up adding a lot to it, once I've stared at everything for a little while; the fish's tail wiggling or dog/wolf/caniform's ear twitching or the boats moving slightly out of phase with one another (though oddly, the rope and hook/crane do not... Perhaps intentional, because it has a bit of a hypnotic effect.)

Kldpxl responds:

Thank you very much!

Aww! Why abandoned outright and not delayed? It seems that a lot of work went into the lighting alone, not only here but in some/most of the interior and car scenes as well.

walnusstinte responds:

I think the main guy developing it just had some real life stuff get in the way, if they came back to me I'd pick it up again though for sure!

Is the house number an intentional Hitchhiker's Guide reference, or a coincidence?

All the effort you put into making everything just a little bit crusty/beat-up/worn/washed-out really pays off in creating a "horror" atmosphere.

Is the "myth" part of the title going to be the Wendigo, or is it too early to ask about that kind of stuff? Lol

When you finish this, please upload a short demo or something to NG, just so I can see it on my feed. I'm not much of a Twitter person...

AtTheSpeedOf responds:

Thanks and it was indeed a Hitchhiker's reference. There's at least one other reference in there somewhere that's unrelated to that. The myth part of it is somewhat related to the wendigo stuff you've seen before. As for the demo, I'll do my best on that. If it ends up running on Unity a demo is likely.

If I had such a thing right now (and the size of the jar permitted,) I would stick my head in that thing like a friggin' ostrich.

Refreshing to see a doodle like this on a site that is 90% drawings of people/anthropomorphs and 45% NSFW. Lol

IrisOfTheRepliforce responds:

ROFL Thank you very much ^.^ that is kind of you. Make sure to wash off the rainbow once you get it in your hair LOL

Interesting mix... An alleyway with a big ole rocky mountain and pine trees in the background. Foreground looks like a combination of European and Asian influences. This is quite fun to stare at, but I'm going a bit nuts trying to figure out where this scene might be (or which specific places it might be inspired by.) Lol, but the latter is my fault.

AtTheSpeedOf responds:

It's nice to see you picked up on that. It's intentionally a mix of a few different places like you said. Not set anywhere in particular.

Jesus Christ, it's so intricate! How long did this take? I'm sure it was a great deal longer than the 5 or 10 minutes I spent staring at it in a trance, anyway.

I like the references to the author of the books and possibly the main character. :D

EvanScale responds:

So glad you like it Monkius!
It took somewhere around 20 hours (with the thumbnails and some pretty detailed pencils first), but i was really happy with how it turned out!

Yess! So happy you saw the references! You are right, its the author and the main character (below are two additional characters but they are not really visible).
How many references did you see? There are 4 more
But my favorite one was the one you mentioned! :D :D

"OH HECK YE--wait, are those horns? Are you--never mind, I don't care!"

This would make fantastic cover art; out of curiosity, is that what it's ultimately intended for?

Helixel responds:

Haha, not really! It was part of someYCH commission slots I opened on twitter (I draw the pose out, you buy the pose you want and put your own character in the slot) the client chose one of my own OCs instead of their own. :)

I find that using the "metallic" texture on streets makes them look "Need for Speed Underground," if you know what I mean. If you don't (or for other people reading this,) the streets in that game look like it has perpetually just rained.

Anyway, I think that a rainy street might add a little something to all those pretty lights in this scene. Or it might not. Mostly, I wanted to share something that I stumbled upon by accident by making the street the same colour as something metallic. Lol.

Kamikaye responds:

Yea I know what you mean. The darker parts reflect a bit indeed, in the shop render in my gallery.
