I find that using the "metallic" texture on streets makes them look "Need for Speed Underground," if you know what I mean. If you don't (or for other people reading this,) the streets in that game look like it has perpetually just rained.

Anyway, I think that a rainy street might add a little something to all those pretty lights in this scene. Or it might not. Mostly, I wanted to share something that I stumbled upon by accident by making the street the same colour as something metallic. Lol.

Kamikaye responds:

Yea I know what you mean. The darker parts reflect a bit indeed, in the shop render in my gallery.

Здравствуйте!

The sunset over "Best God's Church"--lol, awesome name--looks rather ominous, as does "nuke" written somewhere in the background.

If you don't mind my asking, what programming language are you using to make the game?

Looks like a good spot for a medieval chemist to hang out/hide out...

I've been messing around with MagicaVoxel as well, since hearing about it in your last shop drawing. I haven't managed anything this complex with the lighting/fine details though... Wow!

Kamikaye responds:

Yea, thx :)

Wow, I'm glad the shop inspired you to try it out !

Even though the interface looks simple there are a lot of options and techniques to explore. I found that minecraft scenic build tips apply to most Magica Voxel work too.

It looks great and is an interesting combination of Splatoon and a "sidecar" style of trike, but physics-wise, the paint roller makes no sense; all of the springs look coil-bound and at the end of their travel (and thus rigid.) If you don't want to animate the springs, you don't even need them anyway; they are usually hidden away inside the telescopic fork, and the ones lower down on the paint roller are redundant and not needed.

Also, the paint roller isn't moving axially along the telescopic fork (it should move up and backwards, not simply up, relative to the fork.)

I like the aesthetic, but aerodynamically, that roof-mounted gurney flap completely negates any aero benefit of the open engine cover/"spoiler."

Also, is this based off of a real car? If someone actually put a 4-cylinder into a 1950s Fiat 500, then they have some serious spontaneity issues. I'd think that somewhere throughout the probably 40+hour process of an engine swap, they would be like "hmm, maybe putting such a heavy engine way at the back is a bad idea..."

Then again, Porsche 911. Sigh.

Apologies for my rambling; I used to like cars, a lot.

ArindamDhar responds:

Hey, thanks for the feedback. I actually used reference to make this although I don't know much about the technical stuff of cars. I just like old retro cars and how they look so I thought I make them with mods. Don't actually know if making a fiat 500 like this is feasible in the real world. XD

Lol, title is so true (I'll spare you the nostalgia trip.) Also, interesting combination of a realistic manga style background and more cartoonish-looking characters.

One of the first things I noticed was the uneven number of shoelace holes from left shoe to right shoe and my brain went "AAH, DISORDER!" Which got me thinking about how disorder is one of the defining traits of spontaneous people and how without it we wouldn't have...... Anyway, it's funny how such a small detail makes such a great catalyst. Makes me want to share more of my stuff on the internet, too...

She got a defect from the factory, she figured it’d probably worth a lot of money one day so she kept them anyway *edit: fixed*

Criminy, they're /really/ mining it. This certainly serves its purpose, in that the small details in the foreground along with the epic scale of the mining operation bring about a bunch of curiosity and make me want to read this "Dark Planet." Did you happen to publish it?

MLeth responds:

Thank you!

No, it's been an on-going project I work on from time to time and I have no real plans on how I want to tell it either so for now it's just a passion project on the side!

I have so many questions! Why is her hand on her bra strap? Why is her shirt/jacket unzipped in (what appears to be) public? How'd she get that six-pack? And what is casting that magenta-coloured light when she goes to look up from the phone? Oh, and don't think I didn't notice the robotic arm. At first I was just transfixed by the boob jiggle, but the more I looked at this, the more details I noticed and the more I wanted this to turn into a longer animation/story, just to have those details filled in...

Indigenous North American folklore never fails to fascinate and/or entertain me... Ditto for your illustrations!
